How Selisseo® works in the body
OH-SeMet is the only form of selenium that both synthesises selenoproteins and builds tissue reserves.
OH-SeMet is efficiently absorbed in the small intestine via active transport — significantly more effectively than inorganic selenite. Bioavailability is maximal.
OH-SeMet is used for the synthesis of selenoproteins (glutathione peroxidase, thioredoxin reductase) and for tissue storage in the form of SeMet reserves in the muscles.
Under heat, immune or technological stress, the tissue Se reserves are mobilised, maintaining antioxidant status and productivity without a drop in weight gain.

The efficacy of Selisseo® is documented in over 20 published scientific papers and more than 50 scientific communications.
Improves final body weight and feed conversion even under heat-stress conditions. Higher Se deposition in muscle tissue.
Higher egg production in ageing hens, improved shell thickness and strength. Enrichment of eggs with Se at 0.3 ppm.
Feeding sows in late pregnancy and during lactation improves the transfer of Se and IgG to the piglets. Fewer cases of diarrhoea at weaning.
Optimal antioxidant status supports milk yield and milk quality. Higher Se concentration in milk and plasma in cows in mid-lactation.
Approved for all animal categories
Selisseo® has been EU-approved since May 2013 (regulation 3b814) for all animal species. The maximum permitted level of organic selenium is 0.2 mg Se/kg complete feed.

Selisseo® 0.1% Se (liquid): 100–200 g/t feed.
The EU regulation sets two separate limits that are important in formulation:
• Max. organic selenium: 0.2 mg Se/kg complete feed (applies to Selisseo® on its own)
• Max. total selenium (all sources): 0.5 mg Se/kg complete feed
When combining Selisseo® with sodium selenite, the total level must not exceed 0.5 mg Se/kg. For specific calculations and recommendations — contact us.
